Chimney and fireplace inspections are important to keeping your home safe. More than 25,000 chimney fires occur each year in the United States. Chimney fires occur when the flames moving upwards adversely affect the fireplace’s masonry or metal wall. Fires also result from failing to regularly inspect and repair fireplaces.
Chimney fires can be devastating, no matter what the cause. They cause billions of dollars in damage every year. Usually, it’s because the homeowner neglected to have their chimney and fireplace inspected. Fires are typically caused by too much creosote buildup.
Genesis Chimney will inspect your chimney by a CSIA Certified Chimney Technician. This would be a thorough inspection that would not only be cleaning but we would inspect and diagnose any trouble spots.
Chimney leaks can be costly. Sometimes, they are not even noticed until the damage has been done. These leaks can cause serious damage to your chimney. Your home is in danger of fire damage due to deteriorated flue materials and liners. Mold can also spread and cause serious health issues.
Leaks can be prevented, however. We can repair the chimney chase structures, bricks and mortars in masonry chimneys, repair the chimney cap, rebuild the structural chimney and repair and reline the chimney cap. If the fireplace damper is damaged, we can repair or install a new damper.
Genesis Chimney installs damper, stainless steel chase covers and chimney caps for our clients in Washington, D.C. Beltway region.
While a fire burns in your fireplace, gasses, smoke and combustible byproducts are produced. Those byproducts are contained by the chimney liner and are redirected up the chimney and expelled outside. The liner is indispensable for keeping these health-damaging chemicals out of your home. If the chimney does not have a liner, then those same chemicals and byproducts back into your home.
Additionally, a chimney that has a damaged or missing liner, will have a poor draft, renders the whole system inefficient. The liner is crucial in protecting the masonry of your chimney from all of the soot, smoke and other toxic byproducts which can stain and damage your chimney. Liners deteriorate over time as they crack and crumble, thus, making your chimney unsafe and also unsightly.
Genesis Chimney can replace worn, cracked, or deteriorated liners. We can also resurface the inside of the chimney. According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), chimney flue should be replaced if they are cracked, broken, or missing.
We do chimney metal vent installation for B-vent for gas systems, Class A pipe for wood burning and oil systems, and L-vent for oil systems only.
These are primarily chosen for decorative applications and offer the aesthetic appeal of a traditional open-front fireplace with the convenience of gas controls. These fireplaces are vertically vented, naturally drafting appliances that use an economical Type-B gas vent for installation. Glass fronts and outside air kit options are available to help reduce the amount of room air that is drawn out of the living area.B-vent as described on Superior Fireplaces website
Type B gas vent uses a double wall of metal pipe for insulation and safety. The inner pipe of reflecting aluminum heats quickly, containing the warm flue gasses inside. The airspace between the inner and the outer pipes provides insulation against heat loss to keep the warmer flue gasses on the rise.
Class A pipe is used to vent high-temperature exhaust released from wood, coal, and oil-burning appliances such as fireplaces, stoves, boilers, and furnaces. Not every venting system requires a Class A pipe, but it is absolutely necessary for use with all wood-burning fireplaces and stoves.
Type L vents are designed for venting approved oil-fired and natural-gas appliances that produce draft hood flue gasses that do not exceed a temperature of 570º F (299º C), or 926º F (299º C) for 10 minutes in an over-fire situation.
Genesis Chimney can do all of these types of metal vent installation depending on the system that you have. Contact us for a consultation.
